Did you know that smelling green apples can help you lose weight?  How about the knowledge, that when tickled, rats laugh?  No?  Surely you know that the blue whale can blow up 2,000 balloons in one breath? Learn Something Every Day is an enjoyable, quirky, fun fact-a-day site.  When I think of how I could have entertained my children and even become revered with such knowledge, I sigh...but it's never too late.  Learn Something Every Day's website houses daily learning starting back from August 2009.  Join their Facebook Page and you'll be able to keep up with this amusing data every day.

It's just about summertime.  You should be outdoors enjoying some fresh air with your child(ren).  I was thinking of how fun it would be to build a treehouse this year and came across this fantastic "Tricked Out Treehouse Tour" from Dad Labs.  I was so impressed with the production of this, that Dad Labs is my I "Like" Mondays Facebook pick. 

Dad Labs was created to meet the needs of the new, emerging Super Dads.  Their website is not just fun and informative, it takes full initiative and really gives a father fantastic media.

Dad Labs brings more than 30 years of teaching and hands on fatherhood experience, as well as professional filmmaking and writing experience. Troy Lanier and Clay Nichols are accomplished authors and were named to the Austin Chronicle Best of 2005 for their book "Filmmaking for Teens: Pulling off Your Shorts." The company's first DVD, DueDads: The Man's Survival Guide to Pregnancy won a 27th annual Bronze Telly Award. The company released “DadLabs: A Guide to Fatherhood: Pregnancy and Year One”, the first of a series of books published by Quirk Books released on Father's Day 2009. DadLabs is also in the process of developing a TV show based on the company.

Here is my Monday Face Book Page Pick.  Straw Bale Gardening - No Weeding, No Hoeing, No Tilling, is an informative and interactive straw bale gardening page. I wasn't sure I was looking at a straw bale garden when I first came across the pictures, because the owner had neatly framed the bales with wood -- which is optional.

Straw Bale Gardening is a method used with -- you've guessed it, a bale of straw.  After curing your bales and giving them a thin layer of soil, you just plant your seeds or seedlings directly into the bale.  No weeding, no hoeing, no tilling.  Straw Bale gardening is a good alternative to soil, especially if you have poor soil or drainage problems.  Because it's elevated, it naturally helps to keep many pests out.  

If you've ever lived in the south, then you know what red dirt is.  Our red clay not only causes countless stains in my children's clothing -- it can also be difficult to garden with.  As I've heard various complaints over the years, I've always been put off to gardening...but perhaps Straw Bale Gardening is the solution.
