The Woo-Hoo in Bamboo

My children say I've become obsessed with Bamboo.  The fact is, the more I learn about this vastly producing crop, the greater my reverence towards it becomes.  Bamboo is the fasting growing plant in our world, sprouting up to 2 inches an hour.  You can eat it, wear it, play with it, walk on it, sit on it, live in it as well as cook with it.  It is strong, protecting, loving, comforting,  independent, flexible and purifying.  Huh?  All that from a bit of bamboo?

Eat it:  Bamboo shoots provide healing benefits that have been  used towards asthma, kidney disease and broken bones to just name a few.

Wear it:  Yes, you can wear it.  Bamboo can be made into a textile.  At 100% it's like a silk, but blending it with cotton gives it silky softness.

Play with it:  Numerous products can be made from bamboo, including toys.

Walk on it:  Did you know Bamboo is harder then oak?  It is, and bamboo flooring is beautiful.

Sit on it:  Besides toys and flooring, it is used in making furniture.

Live in it:  It has been reported in South America, that homes built from bamboo withstand earthquakes.

Cook with it:  Bamboo can be made into charcoal and  has been used as a cooking resource for many years in China and other places.

Strong:  See 'Walk on it'

Protecting:  When bamboo is made into clothing it keeps it's natural SPF15 protection.  It also keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Loving:  This plant loves everyone.  Apart from the North and South Poles, it can grow anywhere in the world.

Independent:  It grows without the use of pesticides or fertilizers.  Most times it grows on rainfall alone.

Purifying:  When made into a charcoal, it can be used to purify water.

I hope you can understand why I have become completely devoted to this amazing plant.  A few of Jack's friends do, and they are offering giveaways this month in support of friendly Bamboo.  This sustainable plant matures in just 5 years, compared to the 25-70 years of our hardwood trees.  It also produces more oxygen then trees.  It is truly life giving.

Wow! I didn’t know all these facts about bamboo. The only one that I knew about was the floors. One of my best friends put bamboo floors all over house when she remodeled it.
